The heated radiator dissipates the heat into the air as the car moves down the road. The cooled liquid is fed back to the engine through the cooling system. The cycle repeats the entire time the engine is running. Coolant replacement is needed if the PH levels or protective qualities are out of range. The typical coolant replacement intervals are between two and four years, depending on use. Even so-called “long-life coolants” have been known to lose their effectiveness prematurely. The long-life coolants also become contaminated with metals as the water pump and water pass across their surfaces and for this reason, it needs to be replaced.
