"As one of the owners of Precision Incorporated I can’t begin to tell you how upset we are that you have had this experience. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to respond to your problem and hopefully shed light on this difficult and expensive repair process that your vehicle currently needs as well as to address your concerns with our preventative maintenance services. I also sincerely appreciate hearing that you were treated courteously and politely by our staff.
Let me begin by saying that the preventative maintenance services are the most important thing one can do to try to ensure reliability with their vehicle. These services however cannot always predict or stop a catastrophic internal transmission failure without early evidence being discovered during the actual service. If metal filings had come out with the transmission oil, or even if the transmission oil that was drained was scorched or burnt we would have stopped the service and investigated further. Unfortunately the records reveal that this was not the case. Without evidence of early failure it would be wrong of us to charge for further investigation, and hence we did not feel a need to go further in this area of the service. While the services often lead to areas of the car that do need further attention, the transmission in this case just didn’t have any symptoms to warrant deeper investigation. I sincerely wish that it had presented earlier, but as is the case with many catastrophic mechanical failures on cars, there is simply so little warning that not much, if anything, can be done to prevent those failures.
In regards to our pricing being higher it would seem that apples may have not been compared to apples. I double checked our pricing against the local dealer and found our pricing to be approximately $1,000.00 less than their pricing for the same job. We have a great deal of transmission repair experience in that several of our top technicians were trained directly by Honda when they were employed by Honda and this experience has lead us to agree with the manufacturer that the only sure way to repair the transmission with this type of failure would be to replace the unit. We wish we could do the job less expensively, but the replacement transmissions that are required are simply very expensive. Any shop that says they can repair the transmission through a local rebuilding process will simply not produce the same quality result, or reliability in the end. I have been asked many times over the years to consider lowering the price of this particular repair by rebuilding the transmissions in house and I simply won’t lower my standards and produce an inferior repair in the end. I sincerely hope you can understand our need to control our quality, and more importantly, our desire to protect our customer’s interests by providing the best possible repair procedure for each given scenario.
